Register Your Shopify Store

When you register your website, you are telling these two major search engines that your site exists, ensuring it gets crawled.

 

When registering with these services you should register BOTH the www and non-www version of your domain (i.e., www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com), and, if you have a secure and non-secure version of your website, the http:// and https:// versions of each.

 

Submit Your Sitemap

 

After you have registered your site, you will need to submit an XML sitemap to both services. By supplying your site map, both services will be able to index your site accurately and quickly. Shopify will generate this sitemap for you automatically!

 

The URL for this on your store is simply www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. You need to enter this link into Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

 

Make Sure to Use SSL

 

Search engines give ‘https://’ websites (i.e., those that use SSL, ‘secure socket layer’) preference over non-secure, ‘http://’ sites in search results. Internet browsers tend to display warning messages to people visiting non-secure websites.
